Plenty of art to see this summer

The work of Curtis Goldstein and Michael Sherman will be shown at Art Access Gallery, 540 S. Drexel Ave., Bexley, from Sept. 5-Oct. 5.

The Terra Gallery will host its Salon Show 2008 from Sept. 6 through Oct. 31. A Meet the Artist Reception will be held Sept. 6 from 6-8 p.m. The show will feature more than 100 works representing a variety of media and styles.


From Sept.1-30, Studios on High Gallery, 686 N. High St., will host Drawing a Fine Line, featuring two local, Columbus artists who specialize in drawings - Sandy Reddig, pastels and Rhonda Bartoe Tucker, colored pencils. An artist’s reception will be held, Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. 

Terra Gallery is featuring Dayton artist Susanne Scherette King through August. King’s work consists of abstract acrylic paintings using a layering technique of mild tones to bright and vibrant strokes of color. The show will be running through Sept. 4. The Fresh A.I.R. Gallery will present Winds of Change, paintings by Steven Riggs, from July 30 through Aug. 29.

Riggs is a professional artist who uses old world techniques to create works of beauty, mystery and spiritual significance in Oil, Graphite and Mixed Media. He was born in Detroit, Mich. in 1962.

 

He studied the art of the Renaissance Masters throughout his youth and began painting at an early age. Riggs is known for his portrait work which captures the personality and essence of the subject. 

Riggs' work is a part of many private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Canada, Spain, the UK and China.  He has taught art and design at The Decorative Arts Center of Ohio, the Groveport Cultural Arts Center and at the Civilizations Gallery in Columbus.

The Westcott House Foundation presents Michael Scott Rozell’s Overlay glass art exhibition from now through Oct. 5 at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Westcott House,
1340 E. High St., Springfield.

 

Michael Scott Rozell is a contemporary glass artist from Columbus whose art combines the admiration for traditional Italian and Swedish glass techniques with a modern American design sensibility. Designers such as Frank Lloyd Wright, George Nelson, Harry Bertoia and Charles Eames provide a source of inspiration for Rozell’s beautiful pieces, recognizable for their clean lines, soothing yet vibrant colors and simplicity of form.

High Road Gallery, located in the Historic Register Buttles/Brown house at 12 E. Stafford Ave in Worthington, welcomes a large and diverse exhibit by more than 50 artists in August from all over Ohio called THE WORLD AS IT IS: “GETTING REAL AT HIGH ROAD.

 
Also showing are several 3D artists including Marilyn Reeves and Margaret Eriksen with ceramic sculpture, and Denise Novak with glass jewelry.

The Artist in Residence, Suzanne Gallagher, will be present to meet the public and do watercolor portraits during the opening.

Ways of Knowing Water will be on display through Aug. 30 at the Ohio State University Urban Arts Space. The exhibit includes a series of artists discussions and events, including a Ways of Knowing Water Artists' Talk Aug. 7 from 5:30-7 p.m. On Aug. 14, a dialogue, "Get with the Flow ... Find Out How" will be held from 5:30-7 p.m.; Screen Works' Rivers and Tides: Andy Goldsworthy Working With Time will be shown Aug. 21 at 5:30 p.m.; and on Aug. 28 from 4-6 p.m., a dialogue on "When Art Builds Bridges: Art, Environment and Community" will be held.


Making visible the place of water in Central Ohio, Ways of Knowing Water evokes the
presence and power of water and includes works by George C. Anderson, David
Bamber, Alan Crockett Jr., Guy Michael Davis, Nicole Gibbs, Elizabeth Gerdeman, Adam
Kaser, Adon Newman, Stephen Pentak, Ian Ruffino, Sky Shineman and Todd Slaughter.
