There are plenty of things going on throughout the city this week. Here are CityScene's top five picks for June 26-July 3, 2009:
1. Community bonding.
The annual Comfest event, one of the largest all-volunteer festivals in the country, is June 26-28 at Goodale Park, featuring juried music, food and art. Concerts start around noon daily. Visit www.comfest.com.
2. An affair to remember.
While you’re in the mood to shop for art, check out the Easton Art Affair June 26-28 at Easton Town Center. The outdoor fine art and craft show features 125 juried artisans with a wide variety of media. Visit www.eastonartaffair.com.
3. Fun for the whole family.
If you’re trying to hit all the festivals this weekend, don’t forget about the Powell Festival June 26 and 27 at Village Green Park, 47 Hall St., in Powell. This family-friendly event includes live bands, a food court and beer garden, merchant displays, arts and crafts, educational stations, animal mascots and more. 4. Golden gartens.
The 50th annual German Village Haus und Garten Tour is from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 28 throughout German Village. The event features award-winning restorations, garden demonstrations, home accessories and the Central Ohio Watercolor Society’s competition. 5. The big boom.
The largest fireworks display in the Midwest, Red, White and Boom! is preceded by music, a parade, children’s activities, entertainment and food starting at 10 a.m. July 3. Bonus: Two singular sensations.
The Columbus Symphony Orchestra’s Picnic with the Pops event at 7 p.m. June 27 features Composer Marvin Hamlisch on conducting duty and Broadway and cabaret singer Linda Eder taking center stage. Hamlisch’s work includes the music for A Chorus Line and The Way We Were. The performance will celebrate Oscar, Tony and Grammy Award winning hits. Bring your own picnic to share or reserve a table.
