Community events to raise money for Westerville Honor Flight

Various organizations and entitities in the Westerville community - including the city, the Westerville City Schools, businesses, service clubs and other citizens - are making efforts to raise money for a community-sponsored Honor Flight. The flight, scheduled for Oct. 10, will fly World War II veterans to Washington D.C. free of charge. Upon arrival, they will attend guided tours of the National World War II monument and other national memorials. The Westerville Honor Flight Committee and other involved parties hope to raise $15,000 for the flight (it costs $250 to sponsor one veteran).

To help pay for the Honor Flight, community members are encouraged to attend the following events:

June 27
Pancake Breakfast
7:30-11 a.m. American Legion Hall, 303 E. College Ave.
Hosted by the Westerville LIons Club, the American Legion Post #171 and the Westerville Honor Flight Committee. Members of the Westerville City Schools board, City Council and city staff will serve food and bus tables. Cost is $5. Veterans eat free. Call 614-901-6410 or 614-901-6702.

July 4
Honor Flight Float in the Rotary 4th of July Parade
1:30 p.m., Heatherdown Drive and State Street (north to St. Paul Catholic Church)
Honor Flight volunteers have designed a special float to build awareness for the flight, and will be collecting any donations along the parade route.
