Artist Ron Johnson spent four years (1968-1972) in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Nea Makri, Greece. While there, he spent his spare time drawing and painting. Afterwards, he attended the Art Academy of Cincinnati and then earned his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati.
In the mid-1990s, Johnson shifted careers and went from owning a graphics and illustration company to learning plein air painting and becoming a full-time artist. Johnson still lives in the Queen City and continues to build up his plein air portfolio, which includes a series of paintings depicting scenes in the Short North.
